A design entrepreneur on a mission to make the world a prettier and happier place through delightful interiors and irresistible design objets.
Hillary is the inspiration and original founder of Hillary Thomas Designs. Ten years ago, she "officially" took the plunge (but she's been decorating her entire life!) and launched a traditional interior design business in Santa Monica, CA. The business has evolved from a successful interior design firm into a vibrant product and lifestyle company.
Hillary believes that good design is not something off-the-shelf or necessarily one particular style. Rather, it's an eclectic mix of the high and the low, where inexpensive flea market finds and fine antiques can effortlessly coexist.
Originally from Locust Valley, Long Island, Hillary brings her passion for design and her open spirit to all her projects. Her goal is to bring out the inner-creative in even her most left-brained clients and friends. Rooted in her belief that life is multicultural, multilayered, and inspiring, Hillary loves nothing more than harmonizing different lifestyles, tastes, and beloved objects into a thoughtfully designed and highly individualized living space.
Hillary's style: Chic. Traditional. Surprising. Shaken, not stirred.
Inspired by: I just love the era of "Vintage Chic" (so fabulously chronicled by Slim Aarons) when the 50's and 60's WASP socialites started hopping on jets to travel the world for the first time. Design became infused with this global, sophisticated style. It was an amazing juxtaposition of old and new that basically created an entire category of design aesthetic that I like to call Vintage Chic. I know…I was totally born in the wrong decade! I’m also inspired by "wabi sabi" (the Japanese sense of aesthetic that finds beauty in the imperfect) resulting in interiors that are refreshing, intimate and never completely finished.
Cannot live without: My pink foo dogs (...but you probably already know that!).
